Karen was born in San Francisco in 1945. Her passion for her work began at San Francisco State University where she combined her study of anthropology and art. She has lived and worked in the West for over twenty years. For two of those years, she lived and worked on a remote Shoshone Indian Reservation where the faces combined with the high desert light inspired her style. She now resides in St. John (US Virgin Islands) and Sun Valley, Idaho. Her paintings are in the primary palettes, specifically the colors of the primitive pants from which dyes are derived.
